The findings reveal a multifaceted landscape of experiences with NADA treatment for anxiety. While the majority experienced relief and anticipatory sentiments, it was evident that the benefits were not universally experienced. The study underscores the need for continued research and optimization of the NADA protocol to cater to diverse patient needs within psychiatric outpatient settings.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to qualitatively explore and understand the experiences of patients with anxiety undergoing National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) treatment in a psychiatric outpatient setting. METHODS: Through interviews, 20 participants shared their experiences after receiving 10 NADA treatments. The data were meticulously analyzed using latent content analysis to identify recurring themes and patterns. RESULTS: Four themes emerged from the analysis: "A gradually increasing sense of well-being," "Relief that lasted temporarily or throughout the treatment period," "A feeling of inner peace and relaxation," and "A transient feeling of discomfort and disappointment," reflecting ambivalence regarding the tangible benefits of the treatment. CONCLUSION: The findings reveal a multifaceted landscape of experiences with NADA treatment for anxiety. While the majority experienced relief and anticipatory sentiments, it was evident that the benefits were not universally experienced. The study underscores the need for continued research and optimization of the NADA protocol to cater to diverse patient needs within psychiatric outpatient settings. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: NADA treatment could pose a nonpharmacological option for some patients with anxiety. Patients experienced anxiety relief, and many wanted to continue treatment. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION: Patients/users of outpatient psychiatric care participated in the study as participants. They were then interviewed to share their experience.
