Previous studies have found that text content in handwritten fonts affects individual behavior. However, the role played by handwritten font of environmental slogans in scenic spots on the tourists' garbage sorting intention is not clear. From the perspective of social information processing theory, this study explores these issues by examining the handwritten effect (vs machine-written) of environmental slogans in scenic spots on tourists' perceptual fluency, ecological concern, information seeking, and environmental attitudes. First, this study conducted four experiments (N = 1134) to expand knowledge about handwritten effect and tourists' environmental behaviors, by examining the impact of handwritten fonts in environmental slogans in scenic spots on tourists' garbage sorting intention. Second, it was found that an addition of handwritten fonts to environmental slogans in scenic spots effectively enhanced tourists' garbage sorting intention. Latest, ecological concern and information seeking continuously mediated the handwritten effect of environmental slogans in scenic spots. The results showed that environmental slogans with handwritten fonts in scenic spots with had a stronger impact on individuals with high environmental attitudes. This study provides new insights into environmental sustainability and the selection of fonts for printing environmental slogans in scenic areas.
