Scrub typhus as a leading cause of acute encephalitis syndrome in North India: A changing paradigm.

Acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) is an important public health issue in the northern part of India because the previously predominant cause, namely, Japanese Encephalitis (JE) Virus, is being superceded by scrub typhus, caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi, which is a tick-borne disease. This report highlights the causes, implications, and importance of antibiotics in the treatment of AES.
