Postoperative Hyponatremia After Pleural Symphysis.

Pleurodesis is the definitive management for recurrent spontaneous pneumothorax. We report the case of a 62-year-old man with Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome who developed recurrent left-sided spontaneous pneumothorax. He initially underwent mechanical pleurodesis, followed by chemical pleurodesis after recurrence. On both occasions, his postoperative course was complicated by severe hyponatremia consistent with the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion. This case highlights both the challenge of recurrence despite pleurodesis and the importance of recognizing the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion as a rare but clinically significant postoperative complication.
