Macrolide allergy de-labelling in non-tuberculous mycobacterium treatment.

Macrolides are an essential component of non-tuberculous mycobacterium management and being labelled with an allergy can result in these medications being avoided despite them being the preferred treatment. There are few existing case reports describing macrolide de-labelling. These relied on time-consuming tests which delayed the onset of treatment. In contrast, this report describes a case of successful macrolide allergy de-labelling within an ambulatory setting following appropriate risk assessment involving the immunology team. This allowed commencement of appropriate macrolide therapy in a timely fashion.
