Recurrent hydronephrosis and catheter blockage, secondary to an organised bacterial mass within the bladder.

We present a frail man in his 80s with a medical history of hypertension, oesophageal cancer (2018), chronic kidney disease stage 3, hiatus hernia and a long-term catheter. He was admitted with urosepsis and repeated catheter blockages. Imaging confirmed bilateral hydronephrosis secondary to a large gas-containing bladder mass. Operative removal of the amorphous mass was performed and microbiological analysis revealed the presence of microorganisms consistent with Proteus and Aerococcus Our patient has recovered well and has been discharged back to residential care. We have found a few similar reported cases.
