Appendicovesical fistula in a child with acute myeloid leukaemia.

A paediatric patient was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), with biallelic mutations in the transcription factor CCAAT/enhancer binding protein α (C/EBPα). During her treatment, she developed recurrent episodes of febrile neutropenia with neutropenic colitis, leading to the development of an appendicovesical fistula (AVF) with drainage of feculent urine. She underwent laparotomy, division of the fistula with a wide margin of the bladder with repair, with appendicectomy which essentially cured the condition. This case report illustrated the unusual occurrence of AVF in a paediatric patient with AML and management essentially with an appendicectomy.
