Abstract Membrane separation technology has become widely employed in high salt wastewater treatment due to its high efficiency, energy savings, and other benefits. In this study, PES-g-PMAA@Ca modified ultrafiltration (UF) membrane was created via hydrothermal reaction and graft reaction induced by gamma ray irradiation. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy characterization confirmed the successful grafting by comparison with the pristine PES membrane. The microstructure and surface morphology of the PES-g-PMAA@Ca membrane was studied using SEM, which demonstrated the stable loading of nano-Ca particles. Finally, the high salt wastewater was treated with this modified membrane, and the concentrations of COD, TP and TN in the filtered effluent were significantly reduced, which exerted a positive effect on the treatment of high-salinity wastewater and providing an essential reference for future research.
