Trauma-informed pelvic floor health care: a scoping review protocol.

OBJECTIVE: This scoping review will map the literature on trauma-informed care (TIC) approaches in women's pelvic floor health care, examining how trauma and TIC are conceptualized, how approaches are applied and implemented in clinical practice, reported experiences and impacts for women and health care providers, and gaps in knowledge and practice. INTRODUCTION: TIC is essential to providing patient-centered, safe, and appropriate pelvic health care, yet little is known about how it is implemented in women's pelvic health care. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Sources including individuals assigned female at birth and TIC approaches in the context of pelvic floor health care will be considered for inclusion in the review. Any relevant, credible source will be considered for eligibility. METHODS: This review will follow the JBI methodology for scoping reviews. Published literature will be located using MEDLINE (Ovid), Embase (Ovid), CINAHL with Full-Text (EBSCOhost), PsycINFO (EBSCOhost), Web of Science Core Collection, Academic Search Premier (EBSCOhost), and Global Index Medicus (World Health Organization). There will be no date restrictions on the search, references of included studies will be hand-searched, and gray literature will be retrieved from Google Scholar, ProQuest Dissertations and Theses (ProQuest Central), and Google. Two or more reviewers will independently screen studies for inclusion against the eligibility criteria and extract data. Qualitative and quantitative findings will be mapped and presented in tables, charts, or graphs as appropriate. REVIEW REGISTRATION: OSF https://osf.io/h58d3.
