Purpose The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in organisations has given rise to technostress amongemployees,an emerging concern in the digital era. This paper aims to develop a conceptual framework examining how technostress dimensions affect employee mental health via the mediating role of job insecurity, and proposes an intervention model to help organisations mitigate these adverse mental health consequences. Design/methodology/approach This paper adopts a qualitative research method to examine the relationship among AI technostress, job insecurity and mental health. Conservation of resources (COR) theory and self-determination theory (SDT) provide the theoretical foundation for understanding how AI technostress influences job insecurity and mental health. Findings Drawing on COR theory, this paper suggests that AI related technostress increases job insecurity among employees by depleting valued resources. This increased job insecurity, in turn, may contribute to mental health challenges such as stress, anxiety and burnout. Practical implications This paper will aid organisations by helping management to focus on adopting or designing interventions to address technostress and its impact on employee mental well-being. In this AI-driven era, effective strategies and interventions will help employees to reduce their job insecurity and to strengthen their mental resilience, thereby improving employee psychological health. Originality/value This paper extends the existing knowledge of AI-induced technostress by mapping the pathway from AI technostress to job insecurity and mental health outcomes, using COR Theory and SDT. This study contributes to the literature and provides practical insights for researchers, and practitioners.
