The study revealed that while most inmates demonstrated good knowledge of SRH services, accessibility and utilization were markedly poor. Critical services such as contraceptives, reproductive screening and maternal health care were either unavailable or underutilized, despite relatively higher awareness. Younger inmates (=30 years) and those unemployed before incarceration were significantly less likely to access or utilize SRH services. Logistic regression further showed that prior employment and good accessibility were strong predictors of utilization.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to assess the knowledge, accessibility and utilization of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services among inmates in Agodi Correctional Center, Ibadan, Nigeria. Specifically, the study aimed to identify the level of awareness of SRH services, evaluate the availability and accessibility of these services within the correctional facility and examine patterns of utilization, while also exploring socio-demographic and incarceration-related factors influencing access and use.
DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among inmates at Agodi Correctional Center, Ibadan, Nigeria. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire capturing socio-demographic characteristics, knowledge, accessibility and utilization of SRH services.

ORIGINALITY/VALUE: This study is the first to explore the accessibility and utilization of SRH services among inmates in a Nigerian correctional facility. By focusing on this under-researched and often overlooked population, it provides novel insights into the structural and institutional barriers affecting SRH service delivery within correctional settings. The findings offer a critical evidence base to inform stakeholders, including policymakers and prison authorities, enabling data-driven decisions aimed at improving healthcare systems and ensuring the reproductive rights of incarcerated individuals in Nigeria.
