Abstract The ankle is considered the weight-bearing bridge connecting the leg and foot and plays a pivotal role in normal ambulation. Fractures of the ankle are among the most common fractures of the lower extremity in older children. Nonetheless, due to the unique developmental anatomy and biomechanics of the ankle, these injuries are notorious for complications and long-term disability. Early recognition of these types of injuries, accurate classification, and categorization are important for choosing the appropriate management option. Treatment strategies and outcomes vary significantly depending on the location and the type of injury.
