High-dose corticosteroids may cause reactivation or relapse of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. We investigated the virologic and clinical consequences of 6-8 weeks dexamethasone in HBV infected/exposed/unexposed HIV-1 negative adults with tuberculous meningitis enrolled into a placebo-controlled trial. Dexamethasone was not associated with viral reactivation or increased liver injury.
