The monsoon system is driven by land-sea temperature contrasts. In the geological past, land-sea distributions experienced dramatic changes, with breaking up and reassembling. How do the land-sea distribution changes influence the monsoon system? This is an important question for understanding evolution, not only for the monsoon system but also for the Earth system. With this question, we interviewed Dr Gilles Ramstein, a worldwide leading expert in monsoon and paleoclimate. The interview starts from the modern monsoon to the paleomonsoon, and to the future monsoon. Dr. Ramstein also reviews his major contributions to the monsoon and paleoclimate fields. He also provides young scientists with great advice and warm wishes.
