A 22-compound amphiphilic biaryl ether library inspired by the antifouling compound medetomidine has been designed and synthesized. The compound library was evaluated in a primary screening using a novel β-arrestin assay in CHO cells expressing the BiOctα-octopamine receptor of Balanus improvisus. One new compound was found to act as a weak agonist on both BiOctα octopamine receptor and human α2A-adrenoceptors.
