Identification and Quantification of Pathogens in Pleural Fluid from Children with Complicated Pneumonia using the BioFire® FilmArray® Pneumonia Panel.

Parapneumonic empyema (PPE) is a serious and increasingly reported complication of bacterial pneumonia in children. Molecular diagnostics have been shown to improve pathogen identification in this disease. The BioFire® FilmArray® Pneumonia Panel increased pathogen identification in pediatric PPE and quantification was associated with positive culture.
