Abstract A recent study published in Nature reveals the presence of abiotic mechanoelectrical perception in echinoderms, and reproduces this mechanism through biomimetic additive manufacturing. These findings demonstrate the great advantage of biomimetic additive manufacturing in translating structures forged by hundreds of millions of years of natural evolution into the universal language of human engineering.
