Abstract Ocean wave dynamics has emerged as a research focus in Chinese Phys. B . This study checks out the (3+1)-dimensional Hirota-Wazwaz-El Sherif-El Tantawy bilinear equation, a mathematical framework that models the nonlinear wave phenomena in oceans and seas. This study combines the equivalent form to that equation, noncharacteristic movable singular manifold and symbolic computation, to deal with that equation. Our findings include an auto-Bäcklund transformation, four families of the solitonic solutions and two families of the analytic solutions for that equation. All our results hinge on the coefficients in that equation, under the constraints that those coefficients are respectively non-zero. Various choices of those coefficients might aid in exploring certain nonlinear wave phenomena in oceans and seas through our auto-Bäcklund transformation, solitons and analytic solutions.
