This review provides a comprehensive overview of recent research developments on the application of plant-based nanocellulose within the food industry. It begins by examining the raw materials and unique structural attributes of plant-based nanocellulose, as well as the diverse methods employed to prepare it, focusing on key functionalities and benefits in various food applications. In addition, this work critically addresses ongoing challenges such as achieving cost-effective production at a commercial scale, ensuring product safety, and meeting regulatory standards. Potential solutions and future directions are proposed, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary research and advanced technological innovations to overcome existing limitations.
