Purpose The present study aimed to identify the associations between the public funding of institutions and athletes in Brazilian performance swimming and the relationship with the achievement of sport results.Design This research is an ex post facto descriptive study involving 10 Brazilian performance swimming entities and 27 athletes.Findings Overall, institutions and athletes involved in Brazilian performance swimming have received substantial funding through the programs and projects analyzed.Practical Implications Indirect funding sources serve as key financial incentives in Brazilian swimming. Significant associations were observed between the resources from these sources and the results achieved by the main organizations promoting the sport. For Brazilian swimmers, financial resources play a crucial role in securing both national and international results.Research Contribution This highlights the importance of monitoring and evaluating the process of financing policies directed at the main institutions and athletes belonging to swimming in Brazil to verify whether public funding is efficient in the sport career.Originality In terms of value, this study reveals significant associations between the characteristics of public funding and interference in sports development, especially for the reality of Brazilian swimmers.
