The concept of the Third Space is increasingly explored in higher education. In this case study, an academic leader explores whether they can consider themselves a Third Space inhabitant by seeking to understand the journeys into this space by others and the opportunities and barriers of being there. Global feedback indicates the Third Space as a community of practitioners, a concept that provides a useful framework for the articulation of roles and tasks. There is work to do to ensure equity of voices from within the Third Space in higher education decision-making forums, and a need to increase understanding of the impact of Third Space professionals to improve recognition and reward.
