Hospital anxiety and depression as mediators between decisional conflict and decision regret in diabetic foot amputation patients.

The aim of this study was to investigate the mediating role of hospital anxiety and depression in the decision-making conflict and regret experienced by patients with diabetic foot amputation. Data were collected from July 2023 to February 2024 in two tertiary grade A hospitals in Tianjin, China, with a convenience sample of 215 diabetic foot amputation patients. Data on general information, decisional conflict, decision regret and the hospital anxiety and depression status were collected through questionnaires, Data were analyzed by Pearson correlation analysis and Process macro was used in an SPSS program to analyze the mediator variable effect. Decision regret score of diabetic foot amputation patients was (37.74 ± 17.59); The correlation between decision regret and decisional conflict (p < 0.01), as well as hospital anxiety and depression (p < 0.01), was found to be positive. Additionally, there was a positive correlation between hospital anxiety depression and decision regret (p < 0.01). The mediation model indicates that hospital anxiety and depression play a partial mediating role in the relationship between decisional conflict and decision regret (β = 0.144,p < 0.01), accounting for 24.66% of the overall effect. Hospital anxiety and depression have a mediating effect between decisional conflict and decision regret.
