A new s-HAI e-learning course: user experience, and concurrent validity and interrater reliability of s-HAI scores of newly trained healthcare professionals.

PURPOSE: To describe the development of an e-learning course for the s-HAI, evaluate its user experience, and investigate concurrent validity and interrater reliability of s-HAI scores among newly trained healthcare professionals. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An e-learning course consisting of pre-recorded lectures and videos of infants to be scored using s-HAI items was developed. Its structure and content were evaluated by 200 participants completing a digital questionnaire. Concurrent validity of s-HAI scores from a subgroup of newly trained raters (n = 12) was investigated with an experienced rater serving as gold standard using the Spearman's rank correlation coefficient (rs). Interrater reliability of s-HAI scores of newly trained raters (n = 12) was calculated using the intraclass correlation coefficient2,1. RESULTS: The participants considered the e-learning course relevant and reported gaining sufficient knowledge to apply and assess the s-HAI. As newly trained raters, they scored the s-HAI accurately (rs=0.86), and s-HAI scores showed excellent interrater reliability (ICC = 0.94, 95% CI 0.90-0.97). CONCLUSIONS: The s-HAI e-learning course has a suitable format and healthcare professionals can be successfully trained by the course. The course increases access to s-HAI training, and may enable more healthcare professionals to early identify infants at risk of unilateral cerebral palsy.
