New development: Big data and artificial intelligence for smart public decision-making and advancing the SDGs

IMPACTThis article offers guidance to governments on how to achieve the SDGs via utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) and big data. It considers data-using technologies as components of governance systems rather than standalone entities. This study demonstrates how AI-driven decision-making, predictive analytics, and real-time monitoring tools can enhance policy co-ordination, accountability, and sustainability performance. The proposed framework provides policy-makers with actionable guidance on aligning data governance strategies with SDG objectives by linking analytical capacity to accountability and co-ordination mechanisms. It also discusses the potential vulnerabilities to governance that should be considered in order to ensure the transparent and responsible use of AI in government.
