Poetry as a space for action: bibliotherapy and social adaptation in war-affected communities

The experience of American studies on the effectiveness of bibliotherapy and poetry therapy, particularly in work with military veterans, demonstrates a clear imperative for applying these methods in addressing the psychological consequences of war within the Ukrainian context. Through structured writing prompts, engagement with prose and poetry, and integration with other art forms, populations affected by war are offered opportunities to deepen self-awareness, discover new internal resources and coping strategies, and navigate emotional distress and trauma-related symptoms. These practices foster the restoration of self-efficacy, renewed trust in life, and ultimately, the re-establishment of inner resilience and a sense of connection and belonging to the community. This study examines the potential of poetry therapy as a tool for social change in communities affected by war. The methodology is interdisciplinary, combining bibliotherapy, artistic expression, and action research.
