Pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) is prevalent in the peripartum population and can persist if left untreated. There are known barriers to pursuing health care; however, the peripartum population may have more specific barriers to pelvic health. We aimed to examine the current prevalence of PFD, facilitators and barriers to pelvic health, and desired interventions for improved pelvic health among a birthing population. Women aged 18-45 who were either currently pregnant or <1 year postpartum were included in our study. After informed consent, participant completed surveys regarding their current PFD, pelvic floor knowledge, determinants influencing their pelvic floor health, and desired intervention features via REDCap. A majority of participants (n = 80) were currently < 1 year postpartum (70 percent, n = 56), self-identified as non-Hispanic White, and reported at least one symptom of PFD (85 percent, n = 67). The top barriers influencing pelvic floor health cited included knowledge, time, childcare and health-care access. Key facilitators supporting individual's pelvic floor health included social support, exercise, knowledge for greater pelvic health support. Participants preferred interventions which included PFPT (pelvic floor physical therapy) and online videos. Further knowledge of barriers and facilitators once receiving pelvic health information would be beneficial in future research.
