Awareness, Usage, and Perceptions of Artificial Intelligence Among Public Library Users

This study examines user perceptions of artificial intelligence (AI) within the Mahabubnagar District Central Public Library in Telangana, India. Using a structured questionnaire, data were collected from 223 respondents, primarily students and frequent library visitors. The analysis explored AI’s perceived usefulness, risks, and ethical implications. Findings reveal that users regard AI as valuable for enhancing learning, creativity, and information access while remaining cautious about job displacement, misinformation, and data privacy. Differences in perception were influenced by employment status and educational background, suggesting that familiarity with technology shapes both trust and caution. The study highlights the need for ethical AI integration in library services.
