This paper portrays Lucy LaFarge's great skill as a psychoanalyst and especially her talent for writing clinical cases. The author touches upon the way mourning infiltrates the paper as it did her final years. A close reading of one of her case histories inspires complimentary theoretical ideas about the case and her clinical concepts of imaginer and imagined, and the phenomenon of memorial tokens are explored to reveal their richness as a stimulus for further psychoanalytic elaboration.
