Being able to increase the number of active sites through higher catalyst loading in a controlled manner is paramount if less active, but inexpensive materials are to become a viable option for the industry. Achieving high Cu-loadings in SAPO-34 has been problematic due to saturation and formation of secondary phases as a result of the utilized synthesis methods. In this work, a one-pot synthesis method for hierarchical CuSAPO-34 has been developed where single site Cu2+ is incorporated into the SAPO-34 framework with the highest Cu-loading ever recorded (18 wt%). The synthesis method is reliable for a huge range of lower Cu-loadings as well, and can possibly be extended to even higher loadings without modifications to the method.
