A comparative study of two molecular cobalt catalysts for the nitrite reduction reaction revealed that the bipyridine-dioxime complex (1) outperforms the bis-pyridine-dioxime analog (2). The enhanced activity of 1 is attributed to the superior stabilization of catalytic intermediates by the bipyridine ligand framework.
