A catalyst-free photocatalytic oxidative polymerization repurposes the traditionally degradative photo-oxidative pathway of diamino stilbenes to construct porous poly(Schiff base)s under ambient conditions with light and air. The reaction is rapid and quantitative, yielding materials that remove >98% of organic dyes from water within minutes.
