We report symmetrical, tetrasubstituted phenazine-2,7-diamines exhibiting a high photoluminescence quantum yield (>50%) across a range of solvent polarities and solvatochromism due to the locally excited state-based emission and the specific interaction of phenazine with solvents, respectively. Intriguingly, the benzyl- and allyl-substituted phenazines exhibited improved photostability and a higher PLQY, highlighting the subtle role of non-conjugating substituents.
