Upconversion in GdVO 4 :Yb 3+ /Er 3+ was tuned by co-doping with Sc 3+ , Cd 2+ , and Zn 2+ . Enhanced PLQY was achieved through Zn 2+ -induced suppression of large vacancy clusters, while Cd 2+ introduced extended defects that quenched luminescence.
