A Cu–Fe dual-atom catalyst on N-doped carbon enables tandem nitrate-to-ammonia conversion via bifunctional ensemble sites. Cu activates NO 3 − , Fe hydrogenates NO 2 − intermediates, achieving high efficiency, as confirmed by experiments and DFT.
