The first ion-pair-catalysed Fischer indole synthesis is disclosed, powered by the superacidic [Ph 3 C] + [B(C 6 F 5 ) 4 ] − system as the pre-catalyst. The method introduces a powerful tool for the synthesis of indole alkaloids with exceptional efficiency.
