Impact in engineering research: more than a number

Of the many journal metrics available to consider in weighing up the performance of a research journal, probably the best known is the Impact Factor (IF). The IF provides a mean average of the citations accrued in one year by all the papers of a particular journal published in the previous two years, based on citation data from Web of Science. The release of a journal’s first IF will be of interest to the research community, and ours was published in June of this year.
