In this paper, two-dimensional (2D) molybdenum disulfide nanosheets (MoS 2 NSs)/1D bismuth sulfide nanorods (Bi 2 S 3 NRs) heterostructures (MoS 2 NSs/Bi 2 S 3 NRs) were synthesized via the hydrothermal method and characterized with Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) methods. Then, an electrochemical sensing platform based on a screen-printed carbon electrode modified with MoS 2 NSs/Bi 2 S 3 NRs heterostructures (MoS 2 NSs/Bi 2 S 3 NRs/SPCE) was designed as a useful platform for determining 2,4-dichlorophenol (DPN). The electrochemical determination of DPN was investigated utilizing different approaches such as chronoamperometry, cyclic voltammetry (CV), and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The developed MoS 2 NSs/Bi 2 S 3 NRs/SPCE sensor exhibited a remarkable enhancement in the peak current compared to unmodified SPCE and other modified SPCEs in CV studies. Under optimal operating conditions, the sensor demonstrated excellent analytical performance (high sensitivity of 0.175 µA/µM, linear concentration range from 0.002 to 280.0 µM, and limit of detection (LOD) of 0.001 µM for DPN detection. The results indicate that this MoS 2 NSs/Bi 2 S 3 NRs/SPCE sensor could provide an advantageous platform for sensitive and rapid detection of DPN in water samples.
