This article memorializes Nancy Chodorow (1944-2025), venerated psychoanalyst and sociologist, passed away on October 14, 2025, at the age of 81. "Nancy Chodorow" was a household name in the United States in the 1970s, as she was an intellectual leader during the second wave of feminism. She developed profound insights about women's desire to mother and their lives inside and outside their families. As a psychoanalyst and sociologist who began in psychological anthropology, she showed how psyche and society give meaning one to the other in theories and in people's lives and minds. In 2003, Chodorow identified and named an American independent psychoanalytic tradition which she described as "intersubjective ego psychology." Chodorow was a prolific and prodigious scholar-clinician and teacher and the recipient of numerous national and international awards.
