Organic sulfides (thioethers) are important building blocks that have widespread applications across various areas. Over the past two decades, tremendous efforts have been dedicated to the development of new and more efficient synthetic protocols for the construction of organic sulfides, among which the sulfide C─S metathesis reaction via a swap of the two bonding groups on the C─S moieties represents an ingenious strategy due to the fact that it allows fast access to synthetically challenging organic sulfides by editing C─S bonds of easily available ones. This minireview is intended to provide an explanatory overview of some related research, with the hope to invite innovations from areas with burgeoning new techniques.
