They have become indispensable for studying plasmonic nanoparticles, revealing their sizes, shapes, compositions, and optical properties at the single-particle level. This tutorial provides a comprehensive guide for researchers, from the fundamental principles of dark-field scattering to advanced experimental setups, including forward, backward, and evanescent scattering configurations. Practical instructions for performing single-particle scattering imaging and spectroscopy, polarization-dependent measurements, and circular differential scatterometry are presented, with insights into data processing and substrate effects. In addition, we introduce advanced functions such as k -space imaging and hyperspectral dark-field imaging to enrich characterization capabilities. By highlighting the key metrics, emerging applications, and practical considerations, this tutorial is aimed to equip researchers with the knowledge and tools to harness the full potential of dark-field scattering techniques for nanoscale optical studies, ranging from plasmonic systems to quantum nanophotonics.
