We report a concise five-step synthesis of the bis-BN-embedded dibenzoullazine ( BNDBU ) using a ring-closing metathesis/dehydrogenation sequence. A “fully” saturated species ( f-BNDBU ) and a “partially” saturated species ( p-BNDBU ) were also isolated during the dehydrogenation step. The photophysical properties of all three compounds were systematically investigated, and bulk heterojunction self-powered organic photodetectors based on BNDBU showed a competitive performance with an ultralow dark current density of 6.01 × 10 –9 A cm –2 and a large on/off ratio of 5.89 × 10 4 .
