When do we take the institutional stance?

While role-based representations likely play some role in social cognition, we are skeptical that this amounts to a distinctive "stance." We encourage the authors to make more specific predictions about when we rely more upon institutional reasoning rather than mentalizing. We suggest that this might depend on the amount of perceived individual agency afforded to occupants of different social roles.
