The topic of discussion in this chapter is the appearance of impurity spectra arising from a local perturbation of periodic potential. Absence of imbedded states (completely resolved only in the one-dimensional case) is of the most interest. A relation of this problem to the irreducibility of the corresponding Fermi surface is established and known (incomplete) results are described.
