Chemical Synthesis of Gangliosides: Synthesis of Uniform Ganglioside.

Chemical synthesis of fine gangliosides will benefit biological and therapeutic studies because of their major roles in biological processes. However, the chemical synthesis of gangliosides needs considerable effort to construct α-glycoside of sialic acid and the glycosidic linkage between oligosaccharide moiety and ceramide. This chapter focuses on recent progress in the chemical synthesis of gangliosides, regarding the stereoselective glycosidation of sialic acid and the construction of glycolipid framework.
