Vaccination has expanded from a childhood to a life-course public health intervention. However, the principal indicator used to judge programme performance remains rooted in early childhood. Modern immunisation programmes require monitoring frameworks that combine measures of access, completion, timeliness, and protection across the whole spectrum of vaccines on national vaccination schedules. Life-course vaccination therefore requires performance metrics that extend beyond infant coverage with three doses of diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis containing vaccines (DTP3).
