• Multiple parameters are employed to evaluate the sintered hollow brick. • The energy efficiencies were analyzed from the filling rate of the thermal insulation material. • The effect from the filling location was done on the thermal performance of the building wall. • The annual energy consumption reduction was analyzed in five typical Chinese cities.
