Additionally, Malatya group had 16,5% expansion rate instead of Milan DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Malatya criteria has remarkable expansion rate and acceptable survival and recurrence rate for the selection of HCC for LT.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of The Malatya criteria, a novel set of criteria applied in consideration of patients with cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in liver transplantation (LT).
MATERIAL AND METHOD: Patients who underwent liver transplantation for HCC between 2007 and 2022 were reviewed. HCC recurrence rate and survival (both overall survival (OS) and disease free survival (DFS) analyses were made according to Milan and Malatya criteria.
RESULTS: 5-year recurrence rate, OS and DFS were 6.2%, 72.6%, and 73% within Milan criteria and 7.6%, 67.6%, and 68% within Malatya criteria respectively.
