The field of heart transplantation has undergone two decades of consistent and rapid advancement. The findings from this bibliometric analysis offer valuable insights and references for future research and for the benefit of other pertinent stakeholders.
BACKGROUND: In contemporary medical practice, heart transplantation is considered the ultimate recourse for patients suffering from advanced heart failure. Numerous experts have delineated the prevailing challenges and prospective developmental trajectories in the field of heart transplantation. Nonetheless, a meticulous examination of publication trends has not substantiated these expert assertions.
METHODS: This study undertakes a bibliometric review of literature pertaining to heart transplantation spanning the years 2010 to 2024. A total of 3108 publications were primarily analyzed utilizing CiteSpace (version 5.8) and VOSviewer (version 1.6.15.0).
RESULTS: The field of heart transplantation has experienced significant advancements over the past two decades, as evidenced by a steady increase in the volume of annual publications. Among the leading institutions, the Mayo Clinic stands out as a preeminent center of expertise. Notably, Kobashigawa Jon A. emerges as the most prolific author in this domain. The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation is identified as the publication with the highest volume of relevant literature, whereas The Lancet holds the distinction of having the highest impact factor. The term "heart transplantation" is the most frequently utilized keyword in this body of research.
