This study serves as the basis for understanding and scaling sustainable Power-to-X (PtX) value chains. The aim is to crystalize what has been written about PtX value chains and suggest avenues for future research. 238 scientific papers were extracted from Scopus and analysed using bibliometrix R-package. PtX value chain research has properly started in 2017, and the annual scientific production has increased 152% in 2018- 2023. The current research mainly originates from Europe and North America. Research about PtX value chains has mainly focused on technical, economic, and environmental aspects, while considerations related to social sustainability are mostly missing.
