This study develops a novel smart coating for carbon steel corrosion protection, combining epoxy resin with silica fume nanoparticles, lanthanum, and natural turmeric extract. The primary aim is to enhance corrosion resistance, mechanical stability, and environmental sustainability. Silica fume nanoparticles, with their high specific surface area and porous structure, significantly improve the coating's physical and chemical properties. Lanthanum imparts self-healing capabilities, enabling the coating to repair scratches or damage and prevent corrosive species penetration. Additionally, turmeric extract, a green corrosion inhibitor, reduces the corrosion rate through its antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, contributing to environmental protection. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and Potentiodynamic Polarization (PDP) tests demonstrate that coatings combining silica fume with lanthanum or turmeric extract exhibit superior corrosion resistance in a 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. The optimal coating, comprising 0.3 g of silica fume, lanthanum, and turmeric extract integrated into epoxy resin, achieves a corrosion resistance of approximately 929 Ω cm 2 and excellent self-healing properties compared to other coatings tested in the same environment. This work offers an effective, eco-friendly solution for protecting carbon steel in industrial settings, reducing corrosion-related costs and extending equipment lifespan.
